Adoption and Old-Route Retirement Checklist
A new route is not adopted while the old route remains equally valid.
Before the pilot
- [ ] The problem and desired outcome are clear.
- [ ] The people doing the work helped shape the route.
- [ ] One owner and their authority boundary are visible.
- [ ] The minimum information and canonical place are agreed.
- [ ] The exception path is clear.
During live use
- [ ] Test on real work.
- [ ] Notice what is ignored, duplicated, delayed or misunderstood.
- [ ] Ask what the route adds and removes.
- [ ] Simplify before adding fields, approvals or automation.
- [ ] Review one useful signal.
Retire the old route
- [ ] Name the spreadsheet, chat, inbox, notebook or workaround that stops being authoritative.
- [ ] Move live work that still matters.
- [ ] Tell everyone when the old route stops counting.
- [ ] Remove duplicate forms, links and permissions where appropriate.
